The art of competition...

The sudden overwhelming amount of CrossFit competition and race events chatter around the box may seem exactly that, sudden, but the interest has always been there. It may seem overwhelming because people find that once they try "competing" they love it, thus the "need" to constantly talk about it.  The more you guys/gals develop as humble athletes, the more you may start to desire a medium to “test” your fitness capacity amongst other people, or just in general. Such events like the recent CrossFit team competition in Delaware, a Spartan Race, Tough Mudders, the CrossFit Open, SuperFit etc…offer exactly that, a friendly competitive atmosphere to test your fitness prowess. Caitlin Holland, Vinnie Biagas and others have successfully completed a tough mudder. Most recently Laurent and Nikki crushed the Spartan Race. Coach Jmo has competed in FOUR CrossFit regional competitions. The experience is here, simply reach out and ask if you are interested in setting up something fun. Many times, committing to competitions in advance will give you that extra motivation you need to push yourself to come to the gym a little more, eat a little cleaner, and push in the gym a little harder.

Typically competitions are open to individuals, couples, and team. There are usually RX and Novice/scaled categories that make the events user/competitor friendly to all “levels” of fitness, so do not let the name of the competition, popularity of it, or people involved deter you. For example, this September 27th, CrossFit Trident (Alexandria, VA) is hosting a SuperFit (http://www.superfitgames.com/faqs/) competition. Coach Jmo and myself have entered the RX division as a Male/Male team. We encourage others to enter as well, RX or Novice. Either way, this will give you a taste of a traditional CrossFit competition. If you plan on registering for this event, please let me know and we will give you a discount code for 15% off. If there are any other events you wish to enter, please make use of the social page when doing so. Remember to utilize the social page for any and all things social!
